Abstract
Summary and Conclusions In the cases of amebic colitis studied in New Orleans a combination of sigmoidoscopic examinations and purgative and enema specimens were found to be superior to either technic alone in establishing a specific diagnosis. Diodoquin given in a total dosage of 180 tablets over a period of twenty days cured 37 out of 38 cases. S. sonnei was the most frequent cause of Shigella colitis in the New Orleans area. A sugar free, low residue diet was found of value in controlling Shigella colitis symptoms.
