Abstract
A simple expression is derived for the sum of vibrational circular dichroism (VCD) intensities of fundamental transitions. This expression indicates that the VCD sum can be zero for three different types of molecular systems. The nonzero sum in other molecular systems depends upon the molecular electric dipole moment, quadrupole moment, and moment of inertia at equilibrium geometry. Keywords
