Abstract
Issues of humane treatment of the aged in diverse institutional settings are considered in the light of humanistic psychology and human ecology. The roles of staff, the family and volunteers are discussed as they affect prevalent institutional practices of humane treatment. A conceptual scheme is presented for matching institutional environments to needs of the residents as a means of humanizing the institutional experience.Keywords
