Abstract
An ecological study of the dorcas gazelle was undertaken in the Air and Tenere National Nature Reserve, Niger. The population size was estimated at 4800 head. Average group size was 2.45 .+-. 1.81. The largest percentage (36.2%) of the population was observed in harems. The dorcas gazelle was principally a browser, with the trees Acacia tortilis and Balanites aegyptiaca, and the forb Chrozophora brocchiana being the principal species eaten. Most observations of dorcas gazelles were made in temporary watercourses, with runoff stoppe and gravelly piedmont habitats being of secondary importance. The impact of man and management needs are discussed. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
