Abstract
Non-linear phenomenological relations between forces and fluxes have been obtained for heat flow and mass flow from the kinetic theory of thermo-osmosis. The results are in accord with Li's Taylor type-expansion and the corresponding expressions for chemical reactions obtained by Rastogi and Singh. Onsager's reciprocal relations and Li's higher-order symmetry are obeyed. Symmetry relations are valid even with different choice of fluxes and forces. The integrability of the function ∑JidXi is also unaffected by the different choice of fluxes and forces. Comments on the nature of cross-phenomenological coefficients have been made. Factors responsible for deviation from linear laws have been discussed. Keywords
