Strength of Caustics

Abstract
The ratio of amplitudes on and away from a smooth convex caustic is computed, using a uniformly valid asymptotic theory. This ratio may be used to measure the strength of a caustic. Caustic strengths are limited by the requirement that (ka)12 be large, where ka/2π is the radius of curvature of the caustic measured in wavelengths.
