Abstract
Until April 13, 1938, recordings of ionospheric penetration frequencies and virtual heights were made on a fixed frequency of 4.8 mc/sec and on frequencies between 3.0 and 14.0 mc/sec in steps of 0.2 mc/sec by the manual multifrequency technique. On that date recording was discontinued for the installation of the automatic multi‐frequency recorder. This installation was sufficiently complete by May 20, 1938, to commence recording on four of the six bands, that is, from frequencies of 16.0 to 3.28 mc/sec. After the erection of the long antenna on July 19, 1938, the range of frequencies recorded was increased from 16.0 to 0.516 mc/sec and since that time recording has been continuous except for very short periods while adjustments and additions to the equipment were being made or when regular operations for maintenance were in progress. Keywords
