Abstract
The distance between the leading dislocations in a pile-up containing a large number of dislocations is estimated by assuming all except the leaders to be in the form of a super-dislocation. This very simple procedure gives results that are in excellent agreement with exact results previously obtained, while fairly accurate estimates are obtained even when there is only a moderate number of dislocations. Indication is also given of the various other situations to which the procedure might be applied. Keywords
