Parotid Sialolithiasis in a Child

Abstract
RECURRENT parotid swelling secondary to a stone in Stensen's duct is a rare occurrence; only one previous case in a child was found in the English language literature. Our case is presented to suggest this etiology in the differential diagnosis of recurrent parotitis. Report of a Case A 4-year-old white girl presented in May 1966 with a history of swelling of the right cheek of one day's duration. There had been no known contact with mumps. On physical examination, she exhibited no toxicity, and was afebrile with right parotid swelling. The teeth and gums were in good condition and the ostium of Stensen's duct appeared normal. The swelling subsided in three to four days without treatment and the patient remained well until five weeks later, when there was a recurrence of swelling of the right cheek with pain on eating.
