Abstract
Function of 3 neck muscles of the dog was studied to define their mechanical and electrical activity during the respiratory cycle. The sternothyroid contracted only during inspiration. The cricothyroid contracted both during inspiration and during phonation. No intimate relation between the activity of the sternohyoid and the respiratory cycle was defined. Possible use of the sternothyroid muscle for surgical correction of a paralyzed vocal cord is discussed. Effect of anesthesia on physiological studies is emphasized. Keywords
