Abstract
Grazing of female Paracalanus parvus and Acartia lonsa on mixtures of phytoplankton was explainable by a model involving only a general filtration rate and an efficiency of retention which is itself a function of cellular size but is not easily related to the setular spacing on the maxillae. Acartia was less efficient at capturing very small cells than was Paracalanus. A sensitivity analysis was used to determine the relative importance of the size distribution of food, the age distribution of the copepods, and the vertical distributions of food and copepods in estimating the feeding of a natural population. Keywords
