Abstract
Exptl. patent ductus arteriosus was established in dogs by 2 methods[long dash]anastomosis of the aorta or the left subclavian artery to the left pulmonary artery near the bifurcation. In 3 expts. the immediate effects on the circulation were studied. In 5 expts. the effects on the circulation of long-standing ductus arteriosus (7 wks.-3 yrs.) were studied and the effects of occlusion of the ductus were detd. The blood flow through the ductus arteriosus was 39-53% of the left ventricle output. Occlusion of the ductus resulted in a marked decrease in the output of the left ventricle, and a lesser decrease in the output of the right ventricle. Observations on the blood pressure in the pulmonary artery and aorta were made before and after closure of the ductus arteriosus. The relation of the exptl. findings to surgical ligation of patent ductus arteriosus in human cases was considered. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
