Abstract
The increasing complexity of medical care calls for better ways to document and analyze the utilization of medical services. The concept of "medical care episodes" is proposed as a new dimension for representing medical service utilization. The medical care episode is a framework for clustering discrete units of service into cohesive entitles. The delineation of episodes takes into account: the patient''s medical problem or situation, the time intervals between services, and the nature of the medical management. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
