Abstract
A 48-year-old man died following aspiration of metallic mercury during removal of a Miller-Abbott tube. Death resulted from massive endobronchial hemorrhage and was preceded by symptoms and signs of mercury poisoning. Metallic mercury may cause serious local and systemic effects when introduced parenterally. Prompt therapy with dimercaprol (BAL) combined with surgical excision where practical are recommended when these effects are detected.
