Abstract
The specific heats of arsenic and antimony have been measured from 0.7 to 4.0°K and 0.5 to 4.0°K, respectively. For the electronic contributions we find 0.194±0.007 mJ/mole °K2 in arsenic, and 0.112±0.005 mJ/mole °K2 in antimony. Both values are in agreement with de Haas-van Alphen measurements on these semimetals. The lattice specific heat for arsenic is found to be CL=0.0880T3+0.55×103T5 mJ/mole °K with ΘD(0)=280.5±1.0°K. For antimony CL=0.206T3+0.0033T5 mJ/mole °K with ΘD(0)=211.3±1.5°K.
