Abstract
To determine how school-aged children from an Asian-American cultural group perceive, describe, and respond to painful experiences, 24 children, 9 to 12 years old, were interviewed Information was elicited regarding causative factors and word descriptors of pain, feelings, and coping strategies when in pain These children could identify sources of pain, use words to describe their pain, and respond to painful experiences in accordance with known cultural indicators.
