Abstract
A new melanosporous species of Penicillium, P. montanense Christensen & Backus, is described. It is characterized by tall, unbranched or loosely branched colorless conidiophores, terminating in monoverticillate penicilli, and producing spherical, coarsely echinulate, dark-walled conidia in columns or tangled chains. The type culture and fifteen other isolates were obtained from soils in native conifer forests in western Montana, U. S. A.Keywords
