Abstract
Apparent dipole moments in benzene of a series of substituted trifluoromethylbenzenes and related compounds have been determined. The magnitude of the differences between the observed moments and those calculated by vector analysis are most appropriately explained, principally, in terms of a π electron inductive effect of the trifluoromethyl group. Keywords
