Abstract
In 1892, Dercum1first gave the name "adiposis dolorosa" to a new clinical entity present in three cases, two of which had come to necropsy. Since that time about 200 reports have been added to the literature. Of these we have been able to find only fifteen that have come to necropsy, and there has been such a great diversity of findings that any additional information gained from necropsy material should be reported. For this reason the following case is presented. REPORT OF CASE History. —E. B., a colored widow, aged 50, was admitted to the Philadelphia General Hospital, June 21, 1924, because of a cough, which had been present for one week. As this patient presented extreme obesity, this phase of her case was studied. There had been no cases of obesity in her family so far as she knew.
