NEW DIRECTIONS IN SOCIAL PLANNING

Abstract
Social planning in the future will need to take a comprehensive, problem-oriented approach to community welfare. The requirements of such an approach include coordination of all the present components of social services together with the skills of physical and economic planning. In order to mold these previously separate activities into a combined instrument for dealing with social problems, new informational tools and planning methods are proposed. These would feed the social planning process with a constant stream of information bearing as closely as possible upon the substance of objectives of the program, enabling continuous refinement of method, providing new guides toward solution. An organizational structure for the process is suggested and suitable policy instruments proposed in an effort to complete an idealized “model” of community social planning.
