Abstract
The C1h site symmetry of Ho3+ in HoF3 completely removes the degeneracy of the electronic states. The first excited Stark level is only 5.90 cm-1 above the ground level. This results in there being a large ground-state-induced electronic moment in the presence of an external magnetic field. The electronic wavefunctions of the ground multiplet yield a nuclear magnetic moment enhancement of 651 transverse to the C1h direction. This represents the largest enhancement known to date. The pseudo-quadrupole constant Da and the quadrupole constant P of the Teplov Hamiltonian are found to be 67.30 MHz and -12.25 MHz respectively. Keywords
