Abstract
A. normanii f. subsalsa (Juhl.-Dannf.) Hust. from Put-In-Bay, Lake Erie, USA, and A. normanii (Greg.) Hust. f. normanii from the river Wumme near Bremen, Germany and Rio Magdalena, Colombia, were examined using light and electron microscopes. It was concluded that Hustedt (1957) had placed the species in the correct genus, since it has a pseudonodulus, 1 marginal ring of prominent labiate processes, and a fasciculated valve areolation. No further distinction between the 2 forms was observed, other than those suggested by Hustedt, i.e. size and ecology.
