Abstract
The place of culture and culturally congruent foods in the life of institutionalized aged is examined. Cultural identity within a group and psychological factors related to positive feelings towards oneself and to the group which one belongs are discussed as important variables in retaining and regaining health through nutrition. Suggestions are made for comparative research of culturally congruent and in-congruent diets. Keywords
