Abstract
Strong heating of a laboratory plasma is experimentally observed in the presence of a standing wave when the wave amplitude exceeds a certain threshold. This threshold amplitude is absolutely measured from observations of the ponderomotive force effects and compared to the theoretically expected value for the onset of large-scale stochasticity. Keywords
