Abstract
Cobalt(II) succinate tétrahydraté, CoC4H4O·4H2O and anhydrous (amorphous and crystalline) have been prepared and studied by i.r. and u.v.–visible spectroscopy, magnetic susceptibility, thermogravimetry, and by X-ray diffraction. The alkaline salts of cobalt succinate M2Co2(C4H4O4)3, where M = K+ and NH4+ have also been prepared for the first time. The staggered gauche and trans conformations of succinic acid have been found to be present in the complexes. The cage-like structure has not been found in any of the Co(II) carboxylates studied here. Keywords
