Anomalies in optical harmonic generation using high-intensity laser radiation

Abstract
We observe experimentally and explain theoretically second- and third-harmonic generation from a cell containing xenon gas using a tightly focused laser beam with intensities of up to 4× W/. Both processes are forbidden according to standard lowest-order theories.
