Abstract
The purpose of this study was to Investigate the relationship of organizational management style and job satisfaction of clinical nurse specialists employed in hospitals. From a statewide population of 62 clinical nurse specialists, 45 subjects in 17 hospitals responded to a survey consisting of Likert's Profile of Organizational Characteristics to measure management style and Munson and Heda's Job Characteristics Instrument to measure job satisfaction: The clinical nurse specialists perceived that they were currently experiencing a benevolent-authoritative management style but preferred a participative style. Management style and job satisfaction were significantly correlated (r = 0.72, p = 0.001). Management style perception and years in present position predicted 58.6% of the variance in job satisfaction scores. © Williams & Wilkins 1988. All Rights Reserved.Keywords
