Abstract
This paper reviews a number of recent conceptual statements and empirical studies concerning British workers attitudes to class and class relationships. It then presents some evidence from a survey in Barking, London, in 1972-73, a feature of which is a comparison of the responses of the same people to the same questions at dates some months apart. On the basis of this evidence some points are made concerning the nature and prevalence of consciousness of class amongst the British lower class. Keywords
