Abstract
The busy physician can seldom take the time for the patient counseling that plays a vitally important role in convalescence and recovery from many diseases. Now physicians can prescribe a wide variety of programs to educate patients and their families, and health educators provide personal contact and answer questions patients fear are too elementary to ask the doctor. Efforts are under way to involve third-party payers. Keywords
