Abstract
The material was derived from a cat artificially infected with E. histolytica cysts. A somewhat detailed account of the nuclear division is given, and certain structures are described which have hitherto apparently passed unrecognized in other studies of nuclear division in this species. The presence is noted of a cloudy material, arising apparently from the karyosome, in the shape of an axial band in which the spindle is embedded. Two clear cones are described at the poles of the elongated nucleus and a granule, the centriole, is observed at the apex of the cones. The centrioles are connected by a deeply staining filiment, the centro-desmose. Definite minute chromosomes are observed in early metaphase. Their number appears to be 6 in each side group. Only a small part of the material called "peripheral chromatin" is incorporated in the chromosomes.
