Abstract
Differential capacity against electrode potential data are presented for the mercury/ethanol interface for a variety of 1 : 1 electrolytes at 25 °C in order to determine the effect of simple ions on the inner-layer capacity. Interfacial properties were studied in more detail as a function of both concentration and temperature with NaClO4 as electrolyte. It is concluded that ionic specific adsorption is negligible for this electrolyte. The properties of the inner layer are examined within the context of the three-state model, and a comparison made with data obtained earlier for the Hg/methanol interface.Keywords
