Abstract
Demonstrated positive incentive contrast in 3 situations using rewarding electrical stimulation of the brain: (a) self-stimulation current thresholds determined by the descending method of limits lead to higher than base-line rates of responding when the initial current level is reinstated in successive replications of the threshold procedure within a session; (b) during rate-intensity determinations, increasing current level by 5 MUA across 5-min blocks, leads to successive elation effects; and (c) increasing current level during stable fixed-ratio responding decreases the time to complete fixed ratio segments. The implication of these findings for obtaining consistent elation effects with conventional rewards is discussed. (16 ref.) (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2006 APA, all rights reserved)Keywords
