Abstract
Carp (C. carpio) weighing 50 g were infected in spring by SVCV (spring viremia of carp virus) either via the water-route (2 h in 5 .times. 103 PFU (plaque-forming units)/ml water) or i.p. (5 .times. 103 PFU/fish) when the water temperature had reached 11.degree. C. The fish were susceptible to infection and virus was detected in the gills, in the blood and in the water. Virus detection in the gill was the 1st clue of contamination. Viremia leads to spleen and kidney infection and is often fatal.
