An account of the plant succession on waste lime dumps consisting mostly of CaCO3 and waste paper pulp. Funaria hygrometrica and Ceratodon purpureus are the first invaders; grasses soon predominate. Some woody plants appeared but these were disturbed. With an increase in depth, pH determinations showed an increase in alkalinity in the lime waste and a decrease in alkalinity in the paper pulp waste. It is suggested that the appearance of a number of calcifuges on the lime dump is due to the adaptability of the species or to the presence of chemical substances mixed with the lime which counteract its unfavorable effect upon these species.
