Abstract
After extraction in 50% glycerol, frog muscles are found to retain more Na than K. If after such extraction the muscles are immersed in solutions containing equal concentrations of NaCl and KC1 they again contain more Na than K. This is especially true in dilute solutions of 2-20 mM per liter. The ability of the muscle to concentrate K seems therefore to depend upon the intactness of the membrane or the presence of some specific transport mechanism. Keywords
