Abstract
The obstetric performance of 165 elderly primiparae was compared to that of 443 younger primiparae. The incidence of diabetes mellitus, antepartum haemorrhage, mild hypertension in pregnancy and uterine fibromyoma was increased in the elderly primiparae. The induction rate and caesarean section rate was also increased, but the perinatal mortality rate, though higher than the younger primiparae, was only 18.2/ 1000. The incidence of perinatal morbidity was also low. A history of involuntary sub‐fertility prior to conception did not affect the outcome. Keywords
