Abstract
It is shown that the wide thermal hysteresis of the misfit parameter in incommensurate barium sodium niobate is related to the coexistence of the 1q and 2q incommenurate phases. The complex nature of the memory effect is studied and discussed in connection with the occurrence of this mixing of phases. Keywords
