Abstract
X-Ray absorption spectroscopy can provide local structural information about the reaction centres in metal catalysts. Developments in this technique are illustrated with the chemistry of oxide supported metals e.g. Rh(CO)2/titania and by studies on some homogeneous catalysts (rhodium-catalysed carbonylation and nickel catalysts for alkene catenation). Energy dispersive EXAFS promises the opportunity to probe the structures of short-lived reaction intermediates.
