Abstract
An account of field emission experiments on clean and contaminated nickel surfaces is presented. It is concluded that the equilibrium shapes of Ni single crystals are close to spheroidal with flat regions at low index directions. Evidence for the formation of surface phases of carbon, silicon, and oxygen on Ni is presented. A method for studying the diffusion of Si in Ni is described. Chemisorption of O2 on Ni is briefly described. A method for studying grain boundary migration is given. Keywords
