Analysis of Proton Fragmentation into Twoπ−Mesons

Abstract

We report on the reactions

A + p \to π^{-} + \dots

and

A + p \to π^{-} + π^{-} + \dots

, where

A

is either a 13-GeV/c

K^{+}

K^{-}

meson or a 7-GeV/c

π^{+}

meson. We compare the distribution of final-state pions in the proton-fragmentation region with several theoretical predictions concerning limiting behavior and factorization.
