INDUCTION DE LA MISE BAS DE LA TRUIE PAR UN ANALOGUE DE LA PROSTAGLANDINE F2α: CONSÉQUENCES ZOOTECHNIQUES

Abstract
I.m. injection of an analogue of prostaglandin F2.alpha. (A-PGF) (compound ICI 80996) induced parturition in the sow. The treatment-parturition interval lasted an average of 29 h 44 min (.+-. 6 h 20 min and 25 h 24 min (.+-. 3 h 10 min) when 150 .mu.g of A-PGF were given on days 110 and 111, respectively, of pregnancy. In the controls, the corresponding values were 100 h and 76 h (.+-. 35 h). These intervals were related to prolificacy, the correlation being 0.56 for all sows treated. The duration of expulsion varied considerably, from 153 min (.+-. 73) in the control, it reached 170 min (.+-. 93) after induction by A-PGF and was reduced to 124 min (.+-. 70) when 2 injections of oxytocin were given after delivery of the 1st fetus. Birth weight was lower and mortality during the first 2 days of life was higher in piglets of sow treated with A-PGF than in the controls. Piglet growth during the 1st wk of lactation did not seem affected when A-PGF was administrated on day 111 of pregnancy.
