Abstract
The known range of the genus Triaenophorus in North America lies between 42°N. latitude (Indiana, U.S.A.), northward to 67°N. latitude (Great Bear Lake, Northwest Territories, Canada), and from the lower St. Lawrence River northwesterly to Alaska. The southern limit of distribution of the genus appears to be closely related to the 70° July isotherm. An hypothesis of the origin and dispersal of the genus is given. From published records and personal communications, the genus is reported to occur in 32 species of fish.
