Abstract
The increase in the percentage of phosphorylase a associated with muscle contraction was reversed after a few minutes despite continued contractile activity. Whether adrenaline [epinephrine] can activate phosphorylase after deactivation has occurred during prolonged stimulation of contraction was studied. Adrenaline reactivated phosphorylase and glycogenolysis in rat fast-twitch and slow-twitch muscles that were stimulated to contract for 15 min. The reactivation of glycogenolysis by adrenaline could have importance in flight-or-flight situations that call for an increase in exercise intensity. This publication has 20 references indexed in Scilit:
