Abstract
This paper introduces a closed-loop job release mechanismfor job shops where the main source of randomness is due tomachine failure and repair. The release policy adapts concepts of thereorder point method of inventory coutrol tu the context of job shopscheduling. The control mechanism, called starvation avoidance, iscompared empirically ith other input control mechanisms on severalsemiconductor wafer manufacturing job shops with favorable results.Key Words--Discrete event simulation,...Keywords
