THE AFFERENT PATHS OF NERVES INVOLVED IN THE VOMITING REFLEX INDUCED BY DISTENTION OF AN ISOLATED PYLORIC POUCH

Abstract
In 4 dogs distention of pyloric pouches until the pressure within rose to a certain level invariably induced vomiting; distention of pouches of the fundus of the stomach never did. Vagot-omy, when complete, prevented the invariable vomiting reflex produced by distention of a pyloric pouch, for the afferent side of this reflex arc is entirely through the vagus nerves. One supposedly denervated pouch, however, contained enough intact vagus fibers to carry the afferent impulses.
