Abstract
The high sweat-to-serum urea ratio (greater than 1) was studied by correlating this ratio with serum urea concentration and sweat-to-serum osmolal ratios. In addition, the sweat-to-serum urea and thiourea ratios were studied in cat sweat as well as in human sweat. The results showed: 1) little relationship between sweat-to-serum urea ratios and sweat-to-serum osmolal ratios; 2) variable effects of serum urea concentrations on sweat-to-serum urea ratios; 3) sweat-to-serum thiourea ratios of 0.80 in man and in cats. These observations suggest that factors apart from back diffusion of water may account for some of the urea in sweat. Keywords
