Abstract
Avascular necrosis of the femoral head is described. Avascular necrosis of other bones may be present. The lesions were found in areas usually involved in sickle cell anemia (SS hemoglobin). Other causes for avascular necrosis could not be incriminated. It is suggested that sickle cell trait was in some way related to the occurrence of avascular necrosis of the femoral head. Splenic infarction, hyposthenuria, and hematuria are abnormalities usually associated with sickle cell anemia. Keywords
