THE USE OF POTASSIUM TELLURITE IN DIFFERENTIAL MEDIA

Abstract
A concentration of the salt approximating 1 : 34,000 gave excellent results in the isolation of diphtheria bacilli from throat cultures, and seemed to have no. effect upon the virulence of the organisms. From the observation of the growth of a number of cultures in the stock collection, it was found that certain Gram-positive cocci, some of the higher bacteria, yeasts, and molds seemed to be inhibited only slightly if at all, while many of the motile bacilli were markedly inhibited by potassium tellurite in the concentration mentioned.
