Abstract
Experimental and theoretical investigations of optical absorption and emission spectra of alkali-halides doped with Tl+-like impurities are reviewed. The Jahn—Teller effect plays an important role. An extensive interpretation of the complex phenomena is presented and critically assessed. Keywords
