Abstract
Synopsis: Losses of water to the air from cropped lysimeters were greater than from bare soil, and were directly correlated with crop yields regardless of crop rotation. Efficiency of water use was favored by high‐yielding, well‐fertilized crops that kept the soil constantly covered.
